SAMPLE LESSON PLAN (VERY YOUNG LEARNERS)

DURATION:

15 minutes


AGE LEVEL:

6 years old (preschool kids)


LINGUISTIC LEVEL:

Elementary


SUBJECT:

Describing weather


AIMS:

Teaching vocabulary about weather conditions


SOCIAL FOCUS:

Students will be able to pronounce words after the teacher and they will be able to do group/pair work in tasks and games. They also will be able to use puppets and realia.


SKILL FOCUS:

Listening and speaking


LEXICAL FOCUS:

Students will be able to distinguish the adjectives; “sunny, cloudy, windy, rainy and snowy” and pronounce them correctly. They also will be able to answer the question pattern “what is the weather?” by using these adjectives.


POSSIBLE PROBLEMS:

Students can mispronounce some words.


POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

The teacher will make students repeat the words as a whole class when they mispronounce it.


MATERIALS:

Videos, pictures, songs and puppets


WARM UP:

The teacher tries to take the students’ attention to the course.


ACTIVITIY 1:

The teacher greets the class (Hello, how are you?) and he asks the students if they want to watch a video. After they watch the video once, the teacher will ask: “it is funny, isn't it? Do you want to watch again?” After the students say “okay”, the teacher will say “now, try to repeat the words.” Whole class watches the video again and they try to repeat the adjectives.


ACTIVITY 2:

To reinforce the learned vocabulary the teacher sticks some pictures prepared before the lesson. The teacher says the words about weather conditions according to the pictures and he wants to the class repeats the words after him. After repeating the word, the teacher wants the students to try to make gestures and sounds of these learned weather conditions.


ACTIVITY 3:

To consolidate the learned vocabulary the teacher hands out envelops in which there are pictures. After handing out all envelops to every student, everybody opens it and shows the pictures to each other. Then, the teacher wants them to make gestures according to the pictures they have while watching a video. This activity is made by the whole class.


ACTIVITY 4:

To repeat the vocabulary even more the teacher uses puppets to make exercise about the form of asking weather conditions. Then the students play a small role playing like their teacher. They ask each other “what’s the weather?” then, they answer with the pictures they have, for example: “It is sunny.”


ENDING:

The teacher repeats the learned words again. After that, he thanks to the students for their participating to the lesson. Finally he gives them a homework.
